Haydn String Quartet in D, Op. 71 No. 2
Efrem Podgaits Quintet for strings and accordéon
Schubert String Quartet in D minor, D.810 Death & the Maiden
with Friedrich Lips accordéon
An opportunity to hear the famous Fine Arts String Quartet, one of America’s best loved quartets, in mid-period Haydn and Schubert’s great ‘Death & the Maiden’ quartet from the 1820s.
In between, the accordéon virtuoso Friedrich Lips joins the quartet to perform a quintet by Russian composer Efrem Podgaits, written in 2002.
Many different instruments have joined the string quartet to form quintets over the years: the accordéon complements strings beautifully and also lends additional colours, nuance and depth – a magical aural experience, not to be missed.
